In 2010, University College Cork was the first third level education institute worldwide to recieve prestigeous Green Campus accreditiation by the Forum for Environmental Education (FEE) operated by An Taisce in Ireland.
UCC is also accredited as the world’s first third-level institution to be awarded the IS0 50001 standard in energy management. ISO 50001 enables organisations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption
UCC’s approach to sustainability has seen it climb to 2nd place in the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Greenmetric World University Rankings.
This was a student-led initiative which recieved the full support of the university and An Taisce. Students felt there was a need to enhance and combine everything being done for the environment at UCC into one overarching programme.
The Green Campus initiative is designed to ensure that students continue to take the lead, where possible. It aims to promote projects which enhance our green campus and it strives to put into practice our world-class research for the benefit of our environment on a campus, national and global scale.
