More about SRS Finlay

Block Making Beginnings

Finlay Block Making Equipment was started back in the early 1950s, by the late John Finlay and is now the manufacturing division of SRS Ltd.

John Finlay originally began his business as general engineering for the concrete industry. In those early years, most of his engineering designs were focused on his own needs within the concrete business. From this most humble of beginnings, he built up a very strong engineering group of Finlay companies, which included mobile screening, mobile block machinery and forklift trucks.

Up to his untimely death in 1986, the Finlay companies were renowned around the world for quality engineering and excellent after sales support. John Finlay was synomynous within the concrete industry in Ireland and was considered an equal with Harry Ferguson, another Northern Ireland engineering genius.

The Finlay Legacy

The name 'Finlay' continues to live on, some 5 decades after the company was originally founded. Indeed it has been well recognised that many of the local engineering companies founded over this period of time, all have a direct link back to John Finlay - companies, such as Powerscreen, Finlay Hydrascreen, Rapid Engineering and Extec.

This expansive product development programme was continued after the death of John Finlay by his son Stephen. As a consequence of the product expansion the Finlay BME company embarked on an ambitious £5 million investment into a new 12,000m2 world class manufacturing facility which was officially opened in June 2001.

The growing demand for the expanding range of products manufactured at the new facility, in particular Crushing and Screening equipment, instigated a company name change in 2002 to Fintec. Within Fintec the Finlay BME brand continued to command 90% market share of the home market in mobile block making equipment, an extraordinary achievement.

During this expansion period Sandvik Mining & Construction acquired a 49% share in the Fintec company which was later increased to 100% early in 2007. It was then that SRS Ltd seized the opportunity and subsequently purchased Finlay BME from Sandvik in June 2008 to become a wholly owned subsidiary of SRS Ltd and re-named Finlay Engineering.

The Future

Finlay concrete block making equipment is now and has been for many years exported worldwide from the Caribbean and West Indies to North, Central and East Africa, from the Middle East to Australia and of course the UK and Ireland.

SRS Ltd have a dedicated team with over 150 years combined experience in mobile concrete block production, we have an asserted focus on both the home and export market with full customer support and spare parts service.

The new company will be unrelenting in seeking and incorporating the latest industrial technology for the concrete industry into its products.
