Slieve Aughty Mountain Adventures

The Slieve Aughty Mountain Adventures 50k challenge takes place in one of the most beautiful outdoor arenas in Ireland.
The Slieve Aughtys a vast open area of mountains in the north Clare/ south Galway region in the west of Ireland.
The 50k takes place in north Aughty near the lovely village of Kilchreest.
Quite simply it is beautiful, the history of the area spans the ages, standing stones, stone circles, and ringforts.
Houses built with no formal planning or design, in other words, all the lovely old house ruins we can see all over the Aughtys.
Today we can see many windmills dotted all over the place, speaking of windmills ,we have a partially finished millstone in the townland of kilnacappagh just south of the village of Kilchreest, left in ruins because of its many flaws.
The cycle route includes many a wonderful view, the Burren, Galway bay, the twelve Bens/Pins and on a very bright day Croagh Patrick ,worth the entry fee alone.
