The Robinsons' family history in the general area of timber and forestry goes back many years to cutting and stacking timber during their summer holidays from school. Alan Robinson became professionally involved in the timber industry in 1980 through the maintenance and repair of forest machinery and haulage equipment.

Alan's sons, Scott and Ross, caught the forestry bug and found themselves working in the forestry machinery market soon after they finished school.

In 2002 Scott and Ross set up on their own company, Robinson Distribution Ltd. This company was established to supply an efficient repair and maintenance service for timber harvesting and log handling equipment.

During that year, Robinson Distribution secured the Loglift and Alucar agencies and for the first time Robinson Trailers were manufactured. In recent years they have also secured agencies for Iggesund, Kesla and Oregon and continue to develop and enhance their service and support to the forestry industry.

Scott and Ross started another company Portnahinch Products LTD in 2006. This company was established to supply machinery for the firewood market and the private forestry sector, securing agencies such as Posch firewood machinery and Uniforest winches in the process.

In 2009 the brothers saw a gap in the market for net bags, both Leno Net and Mono Filament bags for firewood and kindling. Portnahinch Products Ltd embraced this new idea and began importing and distributing both types of bags in high volumes to the Irish and UK market.

As recently as 2013 Scott and Ross saw yet another gap in the market, this time for car trailers. After researching various makes and models the brothers settled on Graham Edwards Trailers, a UK-based company that has built quality and reliable trailers for the past 20 years. Practising their philosophy of building up to a standard and not down, the company manufactures one of the biggest ranges of trailers which can be customised to suit the customers’ needs.
