More about Lake District Physiotherapy

Lake District Physiotherapy Clinic was founded in October 2012 by Sinead Humphreys (nee Keane).

Sinead graduated from UCD with a honours degree in Physiotherapy in 2001. Since then she is a practising member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and is committed to continuing her professional development to a high standard. In 2007 Sinead completed a Masters degree in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy in NUI Galway. She graduated with first class honours and received the Mary Costello Gold Medal award from NUIG for the best overall results in her class. Her postgraduate research studied the incidence, site and nature of injuries in an Irish professional provincial rugby union team (Connaught) over a season.

Sinead has completed numerous accredited postgraduate courses including orthotic prescription, dry needling, sports traumatology, women's health, and kinetic control courses to name but a few. She is a STOTT Pilates Instructor to advanced level, and has also gained additional certification in Prenatal and Postnatal Pilates instruction. Therefore anyone attending her classes will be under the supervision of a highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapist, ensuring safety and individualised attention.

Prior to setting up Lake District physiotherapy Clinic in 2012, Sinead has worked as a Senior Physiotherapist in Private Practice in Dublin, Drogheda, The Bon Secours Hospital Galway, Ennis, Bermuda, and as a Junior Rotational Physiotherapist in Cork University Hospital, gaining valuable experience in treating a wide variety of sporting, orthopaedic, respiratory, neurological, paediatric and rheumatological conditions.

Sinead has vast experience working with athletes of all different levels - runners, gaelic footballers, hurlers, soccer and rubgy players, golfers, cyclists, adventure racers, squash/ racquetball players, gym goers and more. She has worked as team Physiotherapist for several teams over the past 12 years, including the Galway Senior Hurlers, and with the FAI at international level, for the underage teams - Irish U17 boys, U17 girls and Irish U19 girls in 2012. Currently she works with the Ballinrobe Senior Men's Gaelic team and hopes to return to the FAI in 2014.

Sinead is a keen sportswoman. She has won numerous All-Irelands in Gaelic Football, Basketball and Racquetball, having represented Ireland in racquetball at under age level. She played intervarsity basketball for UCD and intervarsity squash for UCC. More recently, her interest lies in pilates, golf, squash and her two young children!
