More about Irish Classic Superbike Racing

Hi all, welcome to the Irish Classic Superbike Racing Facebook page.
This year ,2014, with your support,we're going to have a new racing class running at Mondello aimed specifically unashamedly directly at old codgers like myself who have been retired for years and fancy having another go but importantly ,riding the same types of bikes we rode before and all for a bit of fun.
Nothing is set in stone regarding rules and regs as of yet and this is your chance to have your views aired and listened to. Below you'll see what we have so far in terms of basic ideas and how it might be
1, Age of rider and machine must add to at least 72
2, Minimum age of rider 45
3, Bikes no newer than 1991
4, Three classes , Up to 350 , Up to1000, Classic pre 1973.
4, No riders who have finished higher than 6th in any c/ship in the last five yearseligible(doesn't apply to classic riders)

That's the basic idea for now.If you do the Maths you'll see that somebody who has their 45 th birthday this year would
be limited to a 27 yr old bike (1987)which would give them the option of GSXR750Hyper , GPX750 , FZR750Genesis , CBR600 , PV350, TZR250 etc etc.
A 49 yr old this year could ride a 23 yr old bike giving them choices like GSXR750M, ZXR750J, RC30 and of course the magnificent OWO1 !+ many more.
Eamonn Medlar has kindly promised us a slot on their two day events . Along with practice and qualifying we would get three races . It's been suggested by Eamonn that we should run a "three round miniseries "this year to get it going.
Looking at the rules and regs of other championships running elsewhere it seems that there are an awful lot of rules and regs regarding suspension, Tyres, wheel width etc. I'd hope that we would leave stuff like that to a minimum as generally stuff like that makes it more expensive.
Anyone going racing (that has'nt held a licence for some years)will have to join a club and attend a riders seminar before a license will be issued.
Interest is strong with quite a few guys committed already . We need a minimum of twenty riders lined up on the grid to make it work but this shouldn't be a problem. If you've raced before (or didn't but wanted to) here's your chance to mix it up with people of similar age to yourself who should have respect for their safety and those around them.
To some it might seem unfair that some current riders within the age limits will be excluded but the whole idea is to get the rusty guys back out on track and i feel it would be unfair to have current proven quick guys mixing it up with the returnees.
Ok , enough for now, please let others know about this and get back to me with your views , comments and to register your interest in competing!
So,pull out that old bike and get it ready , try on the leathers, break the Zip,get them altered, join a club, attend the seminar, get a license and go racing, hasta pronto, Mike M. ICSR
