More about Guilcagh Chruch

When architect William Tinsely designed a small rural church in the 1840’s little did he realise that within 170 years it would be transformed into this delightfully quirky home.
Set in peaceful woodlands and adjacent to historic estates, this unique home just 20 minutes from Waterford city is at once a springboard to the region, and a sanctuary for relaxation.

Guilcagh Church has been re-roofed and sensitively restored this derelict church in the 1990’s, retaining much of its architectural conviction. Gothic oak arches and pointy doors feature throughout the house.
Even the carved stone pulpit remains.

The living areas are open plan allowing us to appreciate the original vaulting roof trusses and supporting hammer-beams, with their carved angel finials and trefoil decorated corbels.

Amid this restoration the 21st century is well catered for - a contemporary kitchen with electric induction hob has been crafted into the oak paneled Chancel.

Light from the magnificent stained glass lancets and tracery windows dapple the interior.

Under floor heating has been fitted to augment the substantial effect of a large wood burning stove.

The dining area, with encaustic tiled floor, links through to the main living space.

There are two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, one on the ground floor, and the second in the mezzanine Gallery above is reached via an elegant serpentine staircase.

The house is well equipped with barbeque, clothes dryer to microwave etc.
