Galway City Comhairle na nÓg

Galway City Comhairle na nÓg is a youth council, it is all about having your say on things that affect young people.

Being on the committee is fun and challenging, you get a lot out of it if you put a lot into it. Make new friends, build confidence speaking in groups and speaking to adults and decision makers about important topics. Learn how to plan and to work on important issues. Learn new skills (communication/problem solving) have great experiences.

Who is it for?

Young people between 12-18 in Galway City.
The committee represents ALL young people in Galway!
Inclusive of all young people of different age, gender, ability and different backgrounds.
Everyone deserves to have their voice heard and opinion respected.

If a young person is not on the committee they can still get involved by coming to Comhairle events and following our facebook page to contribute and see the progress we are making on topics throughout the year.
The committee also sometimes links in with schools or local areas to do surveys and questionnaires with young people on topics or provide information on what Comhairle can do for them.

When and Where?

Galway City Comhairle na nÓg committee usually meet on a weekday after school.
Time: Every Two Weeks, 4.15-5.30pm
Place: Galway City Hall Offices, College Road up the hill past the new coach station.

What have Comhairle been up to lately?

Galway City Comhairle na nÓg has been working on the 'Make Your Own Way 2015' Campaign for more sustainable and environmentally friendly travel in Galway, and promoting a car free Galway by holding a car free day on September 22nd in secondary schools.
They are also organizing an event around positive mental health called 'Let's Go Mental 2015' which is part of a series of events happening all across Ireland run by the Comhairle committee in each of the 31 local authorities.
