More about Fi O'Meara Chartered Physiotherapist

Fi is based in both the Fermoy Dental Centre and the Avondhu Physiotherapy Clinic in the Marina Commercail park Cork. In Fermoy she receives referrals from her father David and brother Cian, both dentists who aim to align the teeth using an ‘Airway-centric method”. This method of orthodontics essentially aims to promote the forward development and growth of the face allowing for a fully patent airway. Myofunctional Therapy is a series of exercises which helps correct the reason crooked teeth developed in the first place. If you correct crooked teeth with orthodontics without addressing the habit that created the crooked teeth in the first place, the teeth will continue to be exposed to the same forces that caused them to become malaligned. The Buteyko Breathing Method (BBM) is a form of breathing therapy which manages conditions such as asthma, rhinitis, snoring, sleep apnoea, anxiety and hypertension, as well as promoting an optimal cranio-facial development. The Buteyko Method is also increasingly used with athletes to improve their breathing technique and control symptoms such as wheezing, coughing and breathlessness. Myofunctional Therapy, combined with the Buteyko Method, complements "Airway-Centric" Orthodontics as it actively encourages nasal breathing and the forward development of the maxilla and mandible. Fi sees clients privately for both Myofunctional Therapy and the Buteyko Method, and also runs evening and weekend courses in the Buteyko Method. She also treats clients from further afield using Skype.
