More about Eco-Explorers

Eco EXPLORERS delivers fun, educational and hands-on activities in the field of ecology, zoology and botany to schools around Ireland. Our primary goal is to inspire scientific interest in the general public and to impact positively on science education.

Eco EXPLORERS started operating in November 2013. By the end of March 2014, over 4500 pupils from 26 schools in 5 counties (Co Galway, Co Roscommon, Co. Sligo, Co. Mayo, Co Clare) have attended Eco EXPLORERS sessions.

Eco EXPLORERS currently proposes the following workshops:

The Bug Doctor: No better support than live exotic and local organisms to learn about ecology, biology and conservation! Dr Michel Dugon will bring bugs, plants and reptiles to your classroom for a very interactive session about zoology, system ecology, physiology and botany.

Bug Hunters: This activity will bring your class outdoor in search of some amazing Irish bugs and plants in biodiversity hotspots in your local area. No stone or bark will remain unturned in this nature discovery walk lead like a treasure hunt!

Day-long ecology field course: This is a formal 6-hour course for Secondary Schools, as advised by the Irish Science National Curriculum. The morning session concentrates on the field study of an ecosystem (Seashore / Woodlands / Bogland). The afternoon session is dedicated to sample identification, data analysis and discussions.

Michel Dugon is also the host of the educational TV show "Bug Hunters" on RTE2 and RTEJr, and he regularly acts animal consultants for the movie and the television industries.
