More about Bí URBAN - Equality for All Pollinators

Bí URBAN is a home for desireland and it's not for profit activities

desireland workshops and products are designed to connect nature, people and place to promote health and well-being.

The Lifeline Project is our grand ambition to create a green corridor that will connect the Botanic Gardens with the Liffey in Dublin 7, providing an amenity for the public and a living laboratory where DIT can study the importance of nature in the urban environment.

We propose the sensitive regeneration of the disused lands adjacent to the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) cutting, Broadstone to Broombridge, into a productive green corridor, public amenity and inter-model transport link. Project interests include urban agriculture, biodiversity, eco-tourism, green transport and innovative models of health-care, recreation, and waste management.

An important project ambition is the creative use of local waste streams (people, space, materials, systems) to fund development and generate employment. The project is process driven and has 4 key objectives:

1. Expand civil capacity through collaborative community based action research that explores local context, culture and heritage and the proactive use EU environmental policy.

2. Develop citizen lead demonstration projects, practical, relevant and of immediate value to Dublin and other European cities.

3. Establish a foundation to support interdisciplinary design and community based participative research focused on behavioral economics, public health and the impact of environmental design on quality of life.

4. The creative use of local waste streams (people, space, materials, systems) to fund community development and generate employment.

The Lifeline Project Bí Product Range is produced by desireland to support the Lifeline Project

An example of this our artisan soap. Produced in Stoneybatter Dublin 7, this special product contains over 50% premium ingredients sourced locally: honey, propolis and pollen produced by honeybees and carrier oils discarded in local food production.

Lilliput Trading Company need to discard quality vegetable oils used to preserve food products (olives, sun dried tomatoes), which they cannot reuse for food production due to health and safety regulations. By using these oils in soap desireland help Lilliput Stores meet their legal requirement to divert them from landfill. Because the oils are of a better grade than commonly used in soap making the end product is superior to most commercial products. Using the discarded oils allows us to invest in exotic ingredients to enhance the therapeutic qualities of our soap.

This process is an example of industrial ecology, when one industry’s waste becomes a valuable resource for another, and reflects the general philosophy guiding the LifeLine project. 100% of your donation is used to support The LIFELINE Project. The soap is available in small sample bars, 100 gram bath bars and selection boxes wrapped for gift giving.
