Port Family Hikers

It's fun,it's free and it's for all the family.

Port family hikers does not charge for membership and does not have insurance. This is a free for all walking group designed for those who like hiking in the slieve bloom mountains. Walks will be organized at least twice a month and anybody can tag along. On most hikes,experienced and certified first aid personal are among the hikers,but this is not always the case,it is up to each individual to take care of themselves. Assistance will be provided to anyone who injures themselves by calling emergency services if necessary. Emergency services costs and charges will be paid by the injured party. It is up to each person to keep up with the rest of the group,it is not fair on the other hikers if they have have to wait on the slow walkers. In some cases maps will be provided free of charge but the routes taken by the hikers are marked official public walkways. All official walkways are colour coded blue/red or yellow. Before and at the start of each walk there are coilte signs/maps indicating the route to take.It is up to you to take note of the route you are taking and not to get lost.
There are many advantages of being or staying with a group
1. If you go missing or get lost,search and rescue will be notified
2. An experienced guide will show you new and existing forest routes
3. Friendships are made

The important thing is to have fun while exercising.
